Profile of Artist:
The oldest hub of carpet weaving in India is Mirzapur in Bhadohi district of Uttar Pradesh. Many generations of artisans blossomed into gifted weavers over the past five centuries.
Born in a poor family of weavers Khalil Ahmad inherited the craft of Durry weaving by his father who was an expert artisan in woolen Carpet and rugs making. At the age of 18 Khalil learnt the nuances of this brilliant craftsmanship. The experience over the years has taught Khalil Ahmad the process of making intricate rugs and carpets for which Mirzapur is famous. Now his unit is offering supreme quality of woolen carpets, mats Shag Rug, &Jute Rugs.
Apart from its aesthetic utility, carpets and rugs also help in maintaining temperatures in extremely cold regions. The excellent sample of master creation of Durry was gifted by Khalil Ahmad to our honorable Prime Minister.
